As education increasingly intertwines with technology, Lake Travis Independent School District (ISD) has taken a bold step forward by piloting a new initiative aimed at enhancing teaching and learning through innovative devices and artificial intelligence (AI). The district’s latest venture, in collaboration with Lenovo, SHI, Google, Intel®, and Advanced Learning Partnerships (ALP), aims to improve instructional practices while equipping teachers with advanced tools for classroom engagement.
In this pilot program, 20 educators from Lake Travis ISD explored the potential of the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 2-in-1, which is powered by Intel’s technology. Paired with AI tools like Google’s Gemini and NotebookLM, along with careful coaching from experienced professionals, the program aimed to enhance teacher confidence and foster AI literacy.

The Lenovo Chromebook Plus has been a standout component of the initiative. Featuring an ergonomic design and optimized performance, educators quickly noticed improvements in their workflow. Robert Huffaker, a teacher involved in the pilot, commented, “The first thing everybody noticed was the keyboard. It’s super ergonomic. And the boot time was very low… it allowed us to get to work very quickly.”
The deployment of AI tools has proven to significantly enhance teaching methodologies. As educators adapted to using Gemini and NotebookLM, many reported improved efficiency in planning lessons and generating instructional resources. “AI amplified [teachers’] expertise,” stated a participant, emphasizing how these technologies helped develop engaging materials while allowing valuable time to be reinvested in direct student interaction.
