Lenovo Takes Steps Towards Net-Zero: Collaborates with Supply Chain Partners

Lenovo is taking significant strides towards a greener future with initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions throughout its global supply chain. As a key player in the technology sector, the company’s commitment to sustainability has far-reaching implications, especially for small businesses that rely on its products and innovations.

Lenovo has established its position as a leader in sustainable practices, earning a spot on the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 for three consecutive years. Acknowledging that their supply chain operations contribute to half of their carbon footprint, Lenovo emphasizes the importance of working closely with suppliers, partners, and stakeholders to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. This initiative aligns with the growing trend among businesses to prioritize sustainability not just for compliance, but also as a market differentiator.

Operating with a supplier emissions reduction program initiated in 2022, Lenovo is engaging 98% of its suppliers in efforts to align with its Net-Zero roadmap. The core of this program is to encourage suppliers to disclose their emissions through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), develop emission inventories, and set climate targets in line with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This framework provides a structured approach for suppliers at varying stages of climate commitment, focusing on collaboration tailored to their specific maturity regarding emissions management.

One of the standout features of Lenovo’s initiative is the renewable energy pilot program based in Guangdong, China, where many of its suppliers operate. In 2024, Lenovo and four of its suppliers will participate in a group purchase of renewable electricity, aimed at boosting access to clean energy while fostering momentum for collective climate action. This collaboration is projected to reduce around 30,000 metric tons of emissions by 2025, highlighting the potential impact of working together toward shared sustainability goals.

In addition to the renewable energy efforts, Lenovo has hosted energy-saving workshops designed to spur practical emission reduction initiatives among its suppliers. The first of these workshops took place at Lenovo’s LSSC campus in January 2025, bringing together 40 representatives from 25 supplier companies. By sharing best practices and success stories, this peer-to-peer engagement helps to build networks of support and innovation across the supply chain.
