SAP SE has unveiled a new generation of AI-enhanced retail innovations designed to transform the retail landscape, emphasizing speed, resilience, and enhanced customer loyalty. This announcement, made during NRF 2026: Retail’s Big Show in New York, highlights how integrating artificial intelligence into retail operations is no longer just a technological advantage; it’s becoming crucial for survival in a competitive market.

“Retailers face a landscape where AI is no longer optional,” said Balaji Balasubramanian, SAP’s President and Chief Product Officer for Customer Experience and Consumer Industries. With the launch of its AI retail operating system, SAP aims to empower retailers with an integrated approach that connects planning, execution, and engagement.

The primary offering stemming from this initiative is the Retail Intelligence solution, part of the SAP Business Data Cloud. Made specifically for retailers and direct-to-consumer businesses, this advanced solution leverages AI to harmonize data from sales, inventory, and customer interactions. With its launch anticipated in the first half of 2026, Retail Intelligence promises real-time insights, enabling better demand and inventory planning. By improving forecast accuracy and reducing manual planning efforts, small business owners can expect lower inventory costs and improved service levels—critical factors in an omnichannel retail environment.

Ananda Chakravarty, Vice President of IDC Retail Insights, noted, “Retailers are seeking built-in, embedded AI solutions to help balance daily operations, future planning, and agility to manage a dynamic market.” The holistic approach of SAP’s systems allows retailers to adopt enterprise-wide intelligence without being bogged down by complex, point-specific solutions.

Among the significant new offerings is AI-assisted assortment management. Retail planners will now be able to create or modify assortments using natural language through SAP’s Joule copilot. This not only expedites decision-making but also liberates experts to focus on higher-value tasks, making it easier to respond swiftly to market changes. Additionally, integrating the SAP Omnichannel Promotion Pricing solution with the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition means retailers can maintain a uniform pricing strategy across various channels, enhancing the customer experience.

Moreover, SAP is actively redefining how retailers engage customers through AI. As shopping increasingly begins with AI assistants rather than traditional storefronts, SAP’s new storefront MCP server streamlines the connection of products, pricing, and promotions to create a seamless shopping experience across various platforms, including popular AI applications like ChatGPT.

The aim is clear: deliver consistent, reliable experiences that build customer loyalty in an era of growing expectation. With the forthcoming Order Reliability Agent, scheduled for the second quarter of 2026, retailers can proactively manage potential order issues. This functionality allows staff to answer common questions about order status and stock availability, ultimately enhancing the customer experience.
