Focused on key transit hubs like the Embarcadero and Montgomery BART stations, this initiative has reduced safety-related incidents by 53% and bolstered commuter confidence—evidenced by 82% of Embarcadero users reporting enhanced feelings of safety during their morning commutes.

Amazon is also playing a crucial role in transforming public spaces through sponsorship of events such as Let’s Glow SF and Winter Walk. These events not only celebrate local artistry but also attract visitors, contributing to the local economy. For instance, Let’s Glow SF 2024 saw over 87,000 attendees and generated approximately $13.2 million in economic activity.

In a bid to enhance community spaces, Amazon has taken significant steps in the East Cut district by leading the charge on two groundbreaking projects. By funding the East Cut Sports & Dog Park, they aim to create a multi-use recreational hub. Furthermore, through The Blue Depot initiative, Amazon is helping emerging entrepreneurs gain visibility by offering free retail space, which removes barriers often associated with standard commercial leases. This move has already supported 11 entrepreneurs, enabling them to showcase their brands.

Alison Neri, owner of Ruby’s Old & New, reflected on her positive experience as part of The Blue Depot: “My time at the Blue Depot was one of those rare moments where all the metrics advanced in the right direction… The opportunity to grow within a space that actively supports small, local businesses reminded me that sustainable retail and meaningful, small-scale curation still resonate.”

Recognizing the importance of culture and the arts, Amazon collaborates with major cultural institutions in downtown San Francisco, such as the San Francisco Opera and the American Conservatory Theater. Programs like the Bold Access Initiative, which provides free theater tickets to Title 1 elementary students, ensure that cultural experiences are accessible to all, nurturing the next generation of arts enthusiasts.

Addressing pressing community needs, Amazon partners with local nonprofits, contributing to initiatives that provide mental health services and affordable housing support. Their involvement with the SF-Marin Food Bank showcases a commitment to tackling food insecurity—providing 3,400 free meals weekly to vulnerable populations in downtown. This partnership results in approximately 2.6 million meals delivered annually, marking it as the largest home-delivered groceries program of its kind across the country.
