Lenovo Partners with AIA New Zealand to Enhance Head Office for Hybrid Work and Sustainability

AIA New Zealand Limited is reshaping the way its 700 employees work by transforming its North Auckland headquarters into a future-ready hybrid workspace. The country’s largest life insurer, AIA NZ, aims to enhance employee wellbeing and meet its environmental goals through this ambitious project. The renovation underscores the growing trend among businesses to adapt their physical environments in ways that foster productivity and sustainability.

The motivation behind AIA NZ’s redesign hinges on the evolving dynamics of work, especially in response to the global shift towards a hybrid model. As Luke Longney, CTO of AIA NZ, articulated, “Our goal was to implement a technology solution that was both simple and modern.” The upgraded office features cutting-edge technology designed for flexible work, aligning with AIA NZ’s commitment to a modern corporate culture.

To deliver on this vision, AIA NZ partnered with Lenovo, a global IT provider known for its innovation. The company equipped its headquarters with 600 Lenovo ThinkVision T34w-30 curved monitors and 700 ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 laptops, facilitating an effective hybrid work environment. Employees can seamlessly switch between home and the office—connecting their laptops to USB-C-enabled monitors at various desks, which can be easily booked via an app.

Moreover, employee experience has significantly improved thanks to enhanced video conferencing capabilities. Longney noted, “We’ve seen a noticeable increase in video meetings, thanks to the improved camera and microphone performance.” This flexibility allows employees to collaborate effectively, whether they are at home or on-site.

However, the technology upgrade extends beyond just hardware. AIA NZ implemented Lenovo Premier Support, ensuring 24/7 access to IT experts and expedited onsite service. According to Longney, “The device refresh was essential to the overall project, and Lenovo made the process seamless. Everything was delivered on time, with no disruption.” This proactive approach minimizes downtime and maximizes operational efficiency.

Sustainability is another cornerstone of AIA NZ’s strategy. The company took significant steps to responsibly manage its retired IT assets through Lenovo Asset Recovery Services (ARS). A structured process allows AIA NZ to securely wipe, refurbish, resell, or recycle aging devices. In total, the initiative effectively managed approximately 491 kilograms of retired equipment, equating to the weight of a concert-spec grand piano.

Longney expressed his satisfaction with the sustainability aspects of the project, saying, “With Lenovo ARS, we have peace of mind that sensitive data is securely destroyed and that older devices are reused whenever possible.” This not only supports AIA NZ’s own environmental goals but also contributes to the broader circular economy, which is increasingly relevant for businesses looking to reduce their carbon footprints.
