Amazon to Open New Logistics Center in Zaragoza, Creating Over 600 Jobs

Share

Amazon has officially announced the opening of its first Distribution Center (DC) in Spain, named ZAZ8, located in Zaragoza. This new facility will represent a 100 million euro investment and is set to enhance Amazon’s operational network within the Aragón region. Scheduled to begin operations in September 2026, ZAZ8 will ultimately create around 600 jobs over the next three years, reinforcing Amazon’s commitment to regional employment and economic growth.

"Estamos muy orgullosos de anunciar la próxima apertura de este centro y así seguir impulsando el talento y el empleo de la región," said Jaime González del Palacio, the center’s manager. The new DC aims to improve delivery speeds by specializing in high-demand products such as essential daily items, allowing Amazon to better serve customers throughout Spain.

In recent times, Amazon has reported record-breaking delivery speeds in Spain. In 2025 alone, it fulfilled over 190 million items with same-day or next-day delivery, indicating a strong market demand for rapid order fulfillment. The ZAZ8 center will act as a logistical hub, optimizing supply chains by strategically storing high-volume inventory, bringing products closer to consumers and enabling quicker delivery times.

This strategic move has garnered attention from local authorities as well. Jorge Azcón, the acting president of the Aragón government, expressed his appreciation for Amazon’s investment and its implications for job creation in the region. "La apertura del nuevo centro de Amazon en La Muela es una noticia magnífica para Aragón," Azcón stated, highlighting the center’s potential to significantly improve employment in an area where challenges with joblessness persist.

Further underlining the significance of this development, Adrián Tello Gimeno, the mayor of La Muela, remarked, “Que una de las diez empresas más grandes del mundo se instale en tu pueblo es muy importante.” He accentuated the impact of creating 600 jobs in a community where the number of unemployed individuals is notably low, referring to this venture as transformative for the local economy.

This expansion into Zaragoza marks Amazon’s fourth facility in the area, complementing its existing Inbound Cross Dock, Amazon Fresh center, and a logistics station. In addition, Aragón has recently seen the establishment of three Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers since 2022, cementing the region’s growing technological infrastructure.

As Amazon broadens its footprint in Spain, it is also enhancing employment opportunities. The positions available at ZAZ8 range from engineering and human resources to roles in IT and logistics. Interested applicants can explore openings via the dedicated site at amazon.jobs.

Offering competitive wages starting above 1,600 euros per month, positions at the ZAZ8 center include additional benefits valued at around 3,500 euros annually. These perks encompass retirement plans, training programs, health insurance, and family-related leave, making these jobs attractive for a diverse array of applicants, from those new to the workforce to seasoned professionals with extensive experience.

In a broader context, Amazon’s investments in Spain have exceeded 20 billion euros since 2011, underscoring its dedication to enhancing infrastructure, logistics capabilities, and support for local communities. Recently, the company announced an additional investment of 33.7 billion euros to further develop data centers in Aragón, reinforcing Amazon’s long-term commitment to the region.

Moreover, approximately 60% of products sold on Amazon come from external vendors, many being small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are leveraging the platform to expand their reach. In Aragón alone, over 400 SMEs successfully sell on Amazon, showcasing the significance of digital avenues in fostering local economic growth. In 2024 alone, these SMEs collectively sold over 3 million products, resulting in an impressive 35 million euros in exports—a 50% increase from the previous year.

This news from Amazon signifies not just an expansion of its logistical operations, but a positive shift for small business owners in the region. As they adapt to increasing competition from e-commerce giants, the availability of agile supply chain solutions and access to an extensive customer base can prove advantageous. However, small business owners must also navigate the challenges posed by this rapidly evolving landscape, including the need to expand digital capacities and maintain competitiveness in quality and service delivery.
